SHA-384 (Secure Hash Algorithm 384-bit) is a member of the SHA-2 cryptographic hash functions family. It produces a 384-bit (48-byte) hash value, which is a truncated version of the SHA-512 output. SHA-384 is designed to offer a higher level of security and integrity compared to its predecessors such as SHA-1 and SHA-256. It is commonly used in applications that require stronger data integrity protection, digital signatures, and message authentication. While it has a larger hash size compared to SHA-256, it provides an extra layer of security for applications that demand it.
