Ping is a simple, widely used network utility that tests for a connection between two nodes on a network. It measures the round-trip time for data sent from the source to the destination and back again. The command sends small data packets to the destination and waits for an acknowledgment, enabling users to determine the responsiveness and reachability of a host on an IP network. A shorter ping time generally indicates a more responsive and efficient connection.
